  1. Hi Gareth, been reading numerous items that you have graciously shared with the curious…. My name is Terry Paton and I live in a small town named Vanderhoof in central British Columbia, Canada. I share the hobby of Amateur Radio and my call sign is VE7UP. I’ve been licensed since 1978 and in July I’ll be 75 years young.
I am curious about your journey with mono vision as when I had my cataract surgery on both eyes I opted to go with mono vision. It worked very well for me in my work life (IT-Tier 2 support with and internet provider) as well as my private life. However, after approximately 3 years I developed a nasty symptom of double vision. I first noticed it when driving and when a single oncoming vehicle would suddenly become two identical vehicle’s of which one was now in my lane coming at me. I soon discovered that if I blinked rapidly 4-5 times the problem would clear. At first it only seemed to happen every now and then but got much worse over time.
I was given the option of surgery to switch to just distance vision but our lovely medical system wanted me to pay $4000.00 for the procedure. I declined and instead had a conversation with a local optometrist who said that she could easily correct the issue but it would mean having to wear glasses again which I was ok with. So I ended up with a newer type of progressive lenses that addresses my three fields needed: very closeup for circuit board work, computer monitor and distance. The double vision that I had was only in my left eye with had the reading lense and what she did to resolve things was to add a prism to that lense. It took two tries as she went light on the prism as a test and although it didn’t fix things 100% it really helped. So she then had a new lense made with an increase to the prism and it’s 100% now and it’s been about 2.5 years.
Anyhow I thought I would just pass this along in case the info could have some value for others.
    Cheers
    Terry
